This hour long documentary put out by the Anglican Church of Canada features some Indigenous United Church leaders as well and is an excellent explanation of what the Doctrine of Discovery was and how it continues to have an impact on systemic racism in our country. Many church folks have never heard of it. In these times of growing awareness, protests and voices that need to be heard coming to the forefront, this is an important resource.

We watched it with our highschool graduate and second year university student this week and were interested to learn that none of this was discussed in highschool (beyond a very brief section on the Residential Schools system) and that it was only in a Sociology class in university that one of them learned more about this. I think every Canadian should know about this part of our history.

June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada, and so I wanted to share this very well-done resource with you.

Peace,

Rev. Jenn
